Incase the patient has undergone bone marrow biopsy and other tests like, X-rays, scans, blood tests; please remember to carry all the reports + slides of the bone marrow biopsy (if available) to these specialised hematology departments. At times they may   reduce the workup required and lessen ur burden and that of the hematologist. A person who knows the complete history of the patient, like drug usage, exposure to chemicals, other cardiovascular disease history, familial history  will always help in  diagnosis and better treatment.

Hospitals
Christian Medical College, Vellore (CMC, Vellore) Tamilnadu.
CMC is located  on Ida Scudder Road, in the heart of Vellore town in Tamilnadu. Its a 1745 bed hospital  with 117 specialized departments/units.

How  to reach there:
The hospital is located at about 2 Km distance from the  town bus stand.
Patients traveling by train can get down at Katpady Junction. The hospital is at a distance of 7 Km from the railway station. Town buses (No 1 and 2) operating from Katpady - Bagayam pas via CMC. Taxis and auto-rickshaws are also available from the railway station. The charge for taxis are approximately between Rs.150-200 and for auto it is between Rs. 40-70 . The rates are not fixed, a bargain on the rates are always helpful.

There is a CMC help desk on platform no  1 @ Katpady Junction. Wheel chairs are also available at the station. Before taking the help of the porters, do fix the rates with them. Contact th station master for the exact rates. From platform 2 and 3 there are ramps provided for taking the wheel chairs till the first platform.

Patients traveling from Chennai by bus will have to take bus no 102 from Koyembedu bus stand. Most of the buses traveling to Bangalore from Chennai pass via Vellore.  Its a three- four hour journey covering around 140 Km.

The department is located on the first floor of the OT building. The department runs OPDs on two days, namely Tuesdays and Fridays (12am-8pm).

The department has conducted many successful bone marrow transplant and immunosuppressive drug therapy for many patients with aplastic anemia. They have an excellent blood bank  with all latest facility in storage and testing of blood samples. The OPD has two chemotherapy rooms, which are used  for blood transfusions, collection of blood samples, administering chemotherapy during day time. OPD also has an apherisis room, having three apherisis machines for collecting platelets, granulocyte and stem cells from donors.

Department of Clinical Hematology

Clinical Hematology unit located at the Comprehensive Cancer Center deals with blood disorders like Thalassaemia, Hemolytic Anaemai, Aplastic Anemia, Hemophilia and other Bleeding Disorders etc. It also deals with malignant diseases like Leukemia, Lymphoma and Multiple Myeloma.

The department runs OPD on Monday- Saturday from  7 am-8 pm. The department has well equipped bone marrow transplantation unit and  blood bank. The transplantation rooms are fitted with HEPA filters with the aim of reducing the risk of infections.
